Classic Malts Tasting - Il Bordello, Bristol

As winter draws in, so the thoughts of every sane man and woman turn to that most pressing of questions: which is the ideal single malt whisky for me? The water of life comes in a dazzling myriad of styles and a tutored whisky tasting is the ideal way to delve into this entrancing world before plunging into what can be a pricey hobby. Tuesday's tasting features selections from Diageo's range of classic malts and shows how each is the product of its surroundings. These range from Islay's Lagavulin, whose resounding peaty attack is rounded by notes of vanilla, to the fauna and grass finish found in Glenkinchie, a classic Lowland malt. Equally contrasting is the peppery spice of Talisker and Dalwhinnie's rich flavours of Christmas cake, heather and honey. Canapes offer much needed sustenance and reduced rate malts are available plus classic malt cocktails.
